Daniel is a dedicated law enforcement professional with over 15 years of service at the Bryan Police Department. A veteran of the U.S. Army, Daniel proudly served for four years, during which he deployed multiple times to Afghanistan. Following his military service, he pursued a higher education, earning an associate’s degree from Blinn College before embarking on his career in law enforcement. Daniel began his tenure with the Bryan Police Department as a Patrol Officer, a role he held for seven years. During this time, he conducted numerous preliminary investigations into a wide range of crimes, including family and domestic violence, strangulation, theft, burglary, robbery, sexual assaults, kidnapping, homicide, stalking and indecency with a child, among others. His extensive experience on patrol honed his investigative skills and deepened his commitment to public safety. Currently, Detective Amaya serves as a Sexual Assault Investigator, where he has taken on the role of lead investigator in complex cases involving online solicitation of minors, adult and child sexual assaults and indecency with a child, His expertise, compassion, and relentless pursuit of justice make him a vital asset to the Bryan Police Department and the community he serves.
Kellye is originally from Round Rock, Texas and she attended Texas A&M University where she graduated in 2005 with a degree in Animal Science. By then, though I knew I wanted to pursue a career in law enforcement. For over 20 years, she has served the citizens of Brazos County as a dispatcher, patrol officer at College Station Police Department and more recently as an Investigator with the Brazos County Attorney's Office. During her time as an Investigator, she learned about Human Trafficking. She encountered a number of survivors in the court system who had been criminalized during their victimization and developed a passion for shedding light on an issue that has historically been kept in the dark. In 2023, she left full-time law enforcement to coordinate the Brazos Valley Human Trafficking Task Force, a federally funded program pairing law enforcement and victim services across a nine-county region. As of January 2025, she is the Director of Operations at Different Day Foundation where they provide healing, housing, and employment to survivors of sexual exploitation and trafficking.
Tara is an Assistant District Attorney at the McLennan County District Attorney’s Office, where she has been assigned to Crimes Against Children Division since 2021. Tara is the chief of the Crimes Against Children division and serves as the Internship Program Director for the McLennan County Criminal District Attorney’s Office. Tara graduated from Wofford College in Spartanburg, South Carolina in 2014 with a double major in Psychology and Spanish. Tara represented Wofford College all four years on the NCAA Division I Volleyball team. In February 2017, Tara obtained her Juris Doctor from Baylor University School of Law, with a concentration in Criminal Law. While attending Baylor Law, Tara competed on several national mock trial teams and completed the leadership development program. She began her career as a prosecutor in April 2017 at the Limestone County Attorney’s Office where she served as an assistant District and County Attorney for four years. Tara primarily handled misdemeanors and appeals, but also tried felony cases and juries. Tara completed the Institute for Coordinated Community Response and worked with local law enforcement agencies through the Domestic Violence Task Force to improve patrol responses to family violence cases. Tara is a member of the State Bar of Texas, Texas District and County Attorney’s Association, the Judge Abner V. McCall American Inn of Courts, the McLennan County Young Lawyers Association, and American Mensa. Tara also serves as an Adjunct Professor at Baylor Law School and teaches in the Baylor Law Criminal Law Bootcamp program.
Brian has been an assistant district attorney for over 24 years. He has worked for the Brazos County District Attorney’s Office since 2003 and is currently the First Assistant. Brian has prosecuted hundreds of felony cases including intoxicated manslaughter, sexual assault, murder and capital murder. He serves in several training roles through the Texas District and County Attorneys Association including a faculty advisor for new prosecutor training. He has also trained attorneys for the State Bar of Texas as well as past Every Victim Every Time Conferences. Brian is a dedicated prosecutor who has a heart for victims and their families.
Marcy was born and raised in California and moved to Texas in 2008. She has been a social worker for 18 years where she has dedicated her entire career to working with at-risk youth. She has worked in parenting education programs, Child Protective Services, CASA, and a child advocacy center. She is currently the Founding Director of Different Day Foundation. In 2015, there began to be a rise in human trafficking cases in the Brazos Valley and as she helped connect families to resources, she began to see the severe lack of services for survivors. Marcy has a strong passion and conviction to serve survivors of human trafficking, and she had a dream to serve survivors with a residential community to heal, house and employ survivors of human trafficking. Different Day was born in 2021 and since the inception she has served over 60 survivors in various capacities such as giving clothes, food, emergency housing, hotel rooms, bus tickets and support. The program is a 2-year residential program at no cost to the survivor giving healing with counseling, equine assisted therapy, and expressive arts.
Greg is a detective with the Bryan Police Department, where he has served since January 2012. Bringing a unique perspective from his prior experience in the family construction business, Greg worked nightshift patrol before joining the detective division in January 2018. His initial focus was on property crimes including thefts, burglaries, and vandalism. During this time, he collaborated extensively with local, state, and federal agencies such as the ATF, FBI, and Department of Homeland Security, to dismantle organized crime rings. In 2021, he transitioned to the Crimes Against Persons Division (CAPERS), where he has tackled some of the most challenging and sensitive cases. His investigative work includes homicides, sexual assaults, family violence assaults, and injuries to children. Currently, he specializes in investigating sexual assault, solicitation of minors, and catfishing cases, leveraging his expertise to protect the community and bring justice to victims.
Kristin is the Domestic Violence Resource Prosecutor for the Texas District and County Attorney’s Association, the premier training organization for prosecutors and law enforcement in the State of Texas. Prior to joining TDCAA, she was a prosecutor for over 17 years serving in both rural and mid-major jurisdictions. Most recently she served as the Chief of the 272nd District Court in Brazos County. During her career, she has prosecuted hundreds of offenses ranging from misdemeanors to murder, with a special passion for cases involving families and intoxication. Kristin has taught courses on investigating and prosecuting domestic violence, crimes against children, intoxication and trial advocacy throughout the State of Texas, including for the Texas District and County Attorney Association, the State Bar of Texas, the Department of Family and Protective Services, the Department of Public Safety Crime Lab and Texas A&M College of Nursing Forensic Nursing Program. She has also served as a guest lecturer at The University of Texas at Austin.
Kevin is an assistant district attorney for the Brazos County District Attorney’s Office. He is currently assigned as the Chief of the 361st District Court. For over 10 years. Kevin has dedicated his career as a public servant in the same community he grew up. Kevin graduated from Texas A&M University and St. Mary’s School of Law. He has spent his time as a prosecutor serving in the juvenile courts, intake, as a drug court liaison and trial court handling all kinds of offenses including white collar crime, family violence, crimes against children, intoxication manslaughter and homicide cases. He has a passion for victims and their families and has dedicated his time to serving his community as an advocate for them.
Micala is a licensed attorney in Texas with a Juris Doctor from the University of Richmond School of Law. She earned her undergraduate degree in Political Science from the same institution, graduating with honors. After passing the Texas Bar, Micala joined the Harris County District Attorney's Office, where she served as an Assistant District Attorney in the Sex Crimes Division. There, she focused on cases involving human trafficking, sexual assault, and child exploitation, working closely with law enforcement to bring perpetrators to justice. Later, Micala became Legal Counsel and Director of Programs at Texas Forensic Nurse Examiners: Forensic Center of Excellence, assisting survivors of family violence, sexual assault, and human trafficking. Currently, she works as Managing Attorney at Texas Advocacy Project, where she oversees a team of attorneys providing civil legal services to survivors of family violence, sexual assault, stalking, and human trafficking.
Kara has been a prosecutor for over 22 years and has spent her entire career prosecuting in the Brazos County District Attorney’s Office. She currently serves as the court chief for the 85th District Court, supervising attorneys in all types of felony cases. Kara has prosecuted hundreds of felony cases including numerous child sexual abuse cases, human trafficking cases and juvenile cases. She provides training for prosecutors and law enforcement agencies locally and statewide. She serves on the Child Advocacy Center Multidisciplinary Task Force as well as the Brazos Valley Child Abduction Response Team. Through this experience, Kara has developed a passion for advocating for children in the criminal justice system.
Shannon is the Director with Secure Our Seniors’ Safety (SOSS). This non-profit was formed by victim family members whose loved ones were stalked, stolen from, and murdered by serial killer, Billy Chemirmir. Shannon’s mother, Doris Gleason was one of his victims. SOSS’s goal is to increase awareness of vulnerability in senior living and to work in Austin for legislation to improve senior security.
Amy was one of the last survivors to be pulled from the rubble of the 1995 Oklahoma City bombing in which a total of 168 people were killed, including 18 of her 33 co-workers. While buried alive and waiting to die, she realized she had never really lived. Once freed from the rubble, Amy launched a self-improvement campaign. Amy shares with the audience how to apply what she learned on her journey from a 355lb teller who dropped out of college to obtaining her master’s in business administration, becoming the CEO, and completing an Ironman Triathlon. This call-to-action keynote will leave the audience inspired, ignited with hope, and with new ideas on how they can achieve their goals.
Lindsey served in the field for over 24 years as a specialized child protection worker & supervisor, a dedicated forensic interviewer, and provided oversight of various CAC programs, including establishing the MDT Coordination Program, & oversight for the Client Relations Specialist, Family Advocate, & Forensic Interviewing Programs. She has conducted over 7,500 forensic interviews regarding allegations of child sexual & physical abuse, medical child abuse, witnesses to DV/IPV, trafficking, drug endangered children, & homicides. She identified the need for professional & training services & founded National Forensic Interviewing Network (NFIN) in 2024. She currently works with NFIN to further training, specialized services, & technical support for CAC/CJCs, crisis centers/FJCs, MDTs, & any organization or professional in the fi elds of child abuse or victims of violent crime. She is a proud TCU Alumna with a Bachelor of Science in Social Work & Psychology & has her Master’s Degree in Social Work from University of Texas in Arlington.
Kendra is the Training & Campus Specialist for the Stalking, Prevention, Awareness, and Resource Center (SPARC). In her role, Kendra specializes in working with colleges and universities to develop effective campus stalking resources. Kendra designs and delivers dynamic trainings to equip students, staff, and faculty with tools to recognize and respond to the unique dynamics of campus stalking and advocate for victims and survivors on campuses. Kendra has a longstanding passion for advocacy in higher education. Prior to joining the SPARC team, Kendra served as Assistant Director of Student Advocacy Services at The University of Texas at Arlington (UTA), overseeing the Relationship Violence and Sexual Assault Prevention (RVSP) Program. In this position, Kendra developed educational trainings and programmed campus outreach events around sexual and relationship violence prevention and victim/survivor support for the UTA campus and Tarrant County community. She also had the privilege of mentoring a team of Peer Educators, college students who were leading the movement to end campus gender-based violence and advocating for their peers who identify as victims and/or survivors. Additionally, she supported other programs under Student Advocacy Services, including the LGBTQ+ program, the Maverick Food Pantry, and the Emergency Assistance Program, as well as served on the Behavior Intervention Team. Before UTA, Kendra worked at Hill College as the Perkins Grant Coordinator, supporting historically underserved community college students pursuing career and technical education degrees. Kendra also served as the Academic Coordinator at College Living Experience in Austin, Texas, where she provided academic advocacy and independent living support for college students on the autism spectrum.
Kendra received a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Texas A&M University and a Master of Arts in Counseling from St. Edward’s University. She is currently pursuing a Doctor of Education in Learning and Organizational Change from Baylor University.
Ryan is an Assistant District Attorney in Brazos County, Texas. Since 2022, she has served as a felony prosecutor in the 272nd District Court. Before joining the DA’s Office, she was a briefing attorney for Judge David Newell of the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals in Austin, Texas. Ryan graduated from Texas A&M University and Baylor School of Law. While in undergrad, she interned for the Brazos County District Attorney’s Office and found her passion for victims and fighting for justice for those that do not have a voice. While in law school, Ryan was the senior executive editor for the Baylor Law Review and received the President’s Award in 2021. She also volunteered as a committee member for EVET in 2017 and 2018, while attending Texas A&M University.
In 2017, Alisa survived stalking and kidnapping by her ex-husband. After the home invasion, he victimized her in two states, including both in and out of Oklahoma Indian country. Her rescue and the successful prosecution of the assailant is attributed to a strong faith, local, state and federal law enforcement collaboration. Today, she shares her story to encourage domestic crime survivors and to acknowledge victim advocates, law enforcement and prosecutors who tirelessly fight for those who live in fear. Alisa is a 25+ year certified human resource professional, University of Oklahoma alumni, national speaker, author, mom, wife, grandmother and passionate domestic violence advocate.
Will is an Assistant Criminal District Attorney with the McLennan County Criminal District Attorney’s Office in Waco Texas. He graduated from Trinity University with a degree in Political Science in 2013. He graduated from Baylor Law School in 2016. Beginning in November 2016, he began a career in prosecution. Between 2016 and 2024 he has held positions within the McLennan County Criminal District Attorney’s Office that include misdemeanor DWI, domestic violence, grand jury intake, and crimes against children’s cases. From 2022 through 2024, he served as the Felony Chief of the 19th District Court. He is currently a senior prosecutor with the Crimes Against Children Division.
Detective Hoffman was a member of the Plano PD for 22 years and has over 32 years in law enforcement total. In March 2018, he was assigned to the task force investigating notorious serial killer Billy Chemirmir. Jon is known for approaching investigations with unique perspectives, solving difficult cases by applying “outside the box” methods. His knowledge of crafted precious metals also played a role in his selection to this investigative team. This skill set led to his success in locating victims, witnesses and stolen property in the Chemirmir case. He has since retired from the Plano Police Department and now works for McKinney ISD, securing the safety of our youth.
Anne graduated from Texas Tech University in 1991 and Baylor Law School in 1995. She has been a prosecutor for approximately 20 years, working in the Lubbock, Taylor, McLennan and Bell County District and County Attorney Offices. She has specialized in family violence and crimes against children and has presented on topics ranging from “Emerging Technologies in Domestic Violence Prosecution” to “Family Violence in military Families” to “Autism and Law Enforcement”.
Tres began to exhibit developmental delays at the age of 18 months and benefitted from assistance through Early Childhood Intervention Programs, HeadStart Programs, Individual Education Plans (IEPs), and accommodations for most state required standardized tests. Tres was always mainstreamed into general education classes in public school with special education support. In High School, he participated in the Explorer Program at the Belton Police Department where he gained insight into the world of law enforcement. In 2020, he began presenting on the topic of “Autism and Law enforcement” and since that time, has trained hundreds of police officers, jailers, dispatchers, probation officers and concerned citizens. Tres graduated from Belton New Tech High School in Belton, Texas in 2018, is employed by Fire Street Pizza and Variety’s Peaceable Kingdom Retreat Center for Children, and recently became a Registered Behavioral Technician.
Chelsea is a doctoral candidate and forensic nurse with multiple certifications, including RN, CNE (certified nurse educator), CHSE (certified healthcare simulation educator), and state and international credentials as a SANE (sexual assault nurse examiner) for adults/adolescents and pediatrics. With over a decade of nursing experience, she conducts forensic examinations and testifies as an expert witness in forensic nursing and non – fatal strangulation at Baylor Scott & White Health. Knutson holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing and Biomedical Science from Texas A&M University and a Master’s in Nursing Education from Western Governors University. She is a PhD Candidate at the University of Texas Medical Branch, with her research focusing on non – fatal strangulation in medical forensic care. As faculty at Texas A&M University, she contributed to curriculum development and program management. Knutson has received numerous awards for her contributions to nursing and education, including the Outstanding Former Student Award from Texas A&M University School of Nursing in 2024. She also serves as an RN at Neal Elementary in Bryan ISD.
Jason is a SAFVIC Systems instructor for the Texas Municipal Police Association, involved in the development and training of the Sexual Assault Family Violence Investigators Course (SAFVIC) and SAFVIC Systems programs. He retired from the Waco Police Department after serving as a patrol officer, field training officer, and patrol supervisor and investigative supervisor. As supervisor of the Crimes Against Children Unit, he oversaw over 5200 cases of child abuse, maintained his own caseload, and supervised investigations resulting in significant convictions. Jason holds a BA from Baylor University, a master's degree in criminal justice from Tarleton State University, and relevant certifications. He has developed and delivered training on digital evidence, investigative bias, child abuse, sexual assault, and human trafficking. Jason has trained law enforcement officers, prosecutors, victim advocates, and professionals nationwide.
Mark’s initial practice of pharmacy started as a poison information specialist at LSU School of Medicine- Shreveport, Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology. He found it fulfilling to assist lay callers and medical professionals with the treatment of patients who possibly overdosed on medications/poisons. After gaining this practical toxicology experience, he moved into a management role and led computerization efforts of a 500 bed teaching hospital pharmacy. He went on to earn a clinical doctorate and taught medical students, interns, and residents how to effectively prescribe medications. He also enjoyed educating patients about their medications. When called to do so, he accepted a directorship role to manage three hospital pharmacies in disparate corners of north Louisiana. Upon retirement, he settled into an almost full-time volunteer “investigative assistant” position within the Criminal Investigations Division of the College Station Police Department. He has been in this position for over 10 years.
Ashley is the Program Director and Founder of Warrior Spirit, a nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering first responders, veterans, educators, individuals in recovery and youth through education, mental health peer support services and mentorship programs. With a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism and certification as a K-12 educator, Ashley brings a diverse and rich background to her role, including experience as a crime journalist, public school educator, child abuse advocate and domestic violence prevention educator. A compassionate advocate, Ashley is deeply committed to enriching the lives of those in her community, particularly within the military sphere, as the mother of a US Navy sailor. Her decade-long experience as a teacher and athletic coach has equipped her with the tools to develop innovative educational and health programs tailored to the unique needs of diverse audiences, especially educators and youth. Ashley’s background in journalism offers valuable insights into the challenges faced by first responders and highlights the critical importance of mental wellness. Her expertise in nonprofit communications and fundraising, combined with her exceptional storytelling abilities, allow her to effectively engage supporters and advance the mission of Warrior Spirit. She holds several Texas Education Certifications, including in English Language Arts, Music, Art, Gifted/Talented, Physical Education, and English as a Second Language, as well as Texas State Certifications as a Mental Health Peer Support Specialist and in Mental Health First Aid and Trauma-Informed Care. Rachel has been a prosecutor with the Brazos County District Attorney’s Office since August 2023. She is currently assigned as an assistant district attorney with the 361st District Court. Rachel graduated from Texas Tech University School of Law where she was National Order of the Barristers and received a Distinguishment in Juvenile Law.
Alison holds a master’s degree in clinical psychology from Sam Houston State University and is a Licensed Professional Counselor–Supervisor. She serves as director of clinical services at Scotty’s House Child Advocacy Center in Bryan, Texas, and supervises LPC-Associates. She also maintains a private practice. Alison’s began her career co-founding the non-profit, Brazos Valley Counseling Services, in 2009. Over her career, Alison has provided counseling services for Twin City Domestic Violence Services, overseen the Sexual Assault Resource Center’s counseling program, and been an adjunct professor at Blinn College. She received the Robert E. Wiatt Lifetime Achievement Award in 2014 and the Margaret Lalk Victim Advocacy Award in 2024. Her guide, Reclaim Your Life, Reclaim Yourself, A Guide for Victims of Domestic Violence, helps DV survivors manage, escape, and recover from abuse. Alison serves as an expert witness in family violence, child abuse, and sexual assault cases in the Brazos Valley.
Paul is the Chief Information Security Officer for the Texas A&M Engineering Department as well as a visiting assistant professor at TAMU in Forensics & Investigative Sciences. Paul has spent over 25 years in the public and private sector as a digital forensics expert. Over the course of his career, he has conducted, assisted, or supervised thousands forensic exams for local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies as well as law firms, corporations, and private individuals. Paul has worked on several high-profile engagements around the globe including cases dealing with Intellectual Properties, Trade Secrets, Bankruptcy, Embezzlement, Fraud, Commercial Litigation, Family Law, and Criminal matters. His work requires him to identify, preserve, analyze, and document electronically stored information (ESI) from computers, servers, mobile devices, cloud storage, social media, and many other sources of ESI for the purposes of evidentiary or root cause analysis. He has been recognized and testified as a forensic expert in legal proceedings pending in State and Federal courts and courts outside the US.
Rachel is a dedicated forensic nurse who decided nursing was her calling as a 4 – year – old after memorable nursing care following a tonsillectomy. Rachel grew up in College Station, TX and attended the University of Mary Harden -Baylor earning her Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 2009. With over 15 years as a nurse, Rachel has cared for patients in Post – partum, Pediatrics, Hospice Care and labor and delivery gaining valuable professional experience and life lessons along the way. The culmination of those lessons learned prepared and propelled Rachel to complete her Forensic Nursing education at Texas A&M in 2020 and join the BSW College Station Forensic Nursing Team in 2021. Since Then, Rachel has had the privilege of caring for forensic patients alongside her incredible SANE colleagues in addition to her full – time job as a Labor and Delivery charge nurse where she enjoyed precepting and mentoring newer nursing professionals. Rachel holds Certifications in Inpatient Obstetrical Nursing (RNC – OB) and Electronic Fetal Monitoring (C-EFM). After delivering 685 babies over 7.5 years in labor and delivery, Rachel stepped down from L&D nursing to become the full time Forensics Education and Outreach Specialist. She greatly enjoys collaborating with community partners and offering education to other professionals and her fellow nurses. Rachel is certified as an/ adult adolescent and pediatric sexual assault nurse examiner by the state of Texas (CA – CP SANE) and holds an international certification as an adult/adolescent sexual assault nurse examiner (SANE – A).
Bast is the Program Specialist for the Cybersecurity Center at Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas. He is a cybersecurity professional with experience in digital forensics, security operations, program administration, curriculum development, and instruction. Bast is passionate about supporting students in their career development, improving cybersecurity education, and facilitating hands-on learning. He is an experienced mentor and facilitator, dedicated to fostering ethical, informed leadership in the field. His research interests include network and device security, the psychology of learning, and the intersection of human behavior and cybersecurity.
Emma is an award-winning licensed professional counselor and AASECT-certified sex therapist based in Nashville, TN, with a practice serving clients in Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, Maryland, and Washington, D.C. She specializes in trauma recovery, sexual health, and LGBTQ+ healthcare, with a particular focus on sexual and religious trauma, sex therapy, and supporting queer, trans, and nonbinary individuals and couples.
Before establishing her private practice, Emma worked in multiple embedded-civilian roles with the United States Marine Corps, including suicide prevention and sexual assault prevention and response. Her advocacy and leadership efforts have centered on the human dignity of survivors and service members, including early advocacy for LGBTQIA+ competency within sexual assault response teams and open transgender military service. She has served on several executive and advisory boards supporting LGBTQ+ and military families, demonstrating her long-standing commitment to community service and systemic change. Emma approaches her work from an existential-feminist and trauma-informed perspective, with a strong dedication to supporting marginalized populations and promoting inclusive, compassionate care. She is a graduate of the University of Scranton and Walden University. Her research on the lived experiences of cisheteronormativity by nonbinary survivors of sexual assault has been recognized at a national level for contributing positively to her field. Outside of her professional work, Dr. Smith is an avid reader, runner, and sparkle enthusiast, and is passionate about integrating mindfulness practices into her daily life.
Ashleigh is a dedicated forensic interviewer with a background in Sociology and Psychology. After graduating from Texas A&M University, Ashleigh spent time as a
flight attendant, a role that honed her interpersonal skills and global perspective.
Currently serving as the Lead Forensic Interviewer at Scotty's House, Ashleigh brings four years of invaluable experience to her role. She has conducted over 750 forensic interviews and has trained and mentored 8 other forensic interviewers. She is passionate about the CAC Model, emphasizing a multidisciplinary and coordinated response to child abuse cases, while employing a compassionate and child-centered approach. Ashleigh's commitment to her work is deeply rooted in her personal experiences. Having two siblings adopted out of foster care, she understands the challenges that children in vulnerable situations face. This personal connection fuels her passion for ensuring the safety, comfort, and well-being of every child she interacts with during the interview.
Autumn brings over half a decade of law enforcement experience as a police officer, field training officer, TCOLE instructor, and crisis negotiator team lead for Central Texas Regional SWAT. Throughout her profession, she has investigated many family violence assaults and sexual assault crimes, including cases of physical and sexual abuse of children. Prior to becoming a police officer, Autumn dedicated her time to being a victim services advocate for the people in her community through the police department. As an officer, she joined her department’s peer support team to continue an advocacy role in helping fellow first responders receive necessary support through times of personal and professional crisis. Autumn joined the Sexual Assault Family Violence Instructor’s Course (SAFVIC) and SAFVIC Systems programs in pursuit of her goal to teach and promote increased knowledge and awareness among law enforcement officers and advocates statewide.
